If You Don’t Enroll
If you don’t enroll, your current elections will continue for 2027, with a few exceptions:
- You will not participate in the Limited Purpose or General Purpose Health Care Account (LPHCA/GPHCA) or the Dependent Care Account (DCA). To participate for 2027, you must actively enroll and elect an annual contribution amount.
- For LPHCA and GPHCA, you cannot change your election mid-year for any reason. See the Health Care Accounts Summary for more information, including information about the Limited Purpose and General Purpose HCA accounts.
- For DCA, you may change your election mid-year if you have a qualified change such as a change in day care providers.
- You will not be able to purchase additional vacation for 2027. Remember, purchased vacation must be used for the year it’s elected and is not eligible to be carried over. Any unused vacation purchased for 2027 will be refunded as taxable pay by December 31, 2027.
- If you are enrolled in the HSA Copay option and are age 65 or older, you will be automatically opted out of the HSA contribution election. You need to call Fidelity at the Pfizer Benefits Center by December 4, 2026, to confirm you meet the eligibility requirements in order to elect an HSA contribution amount. For all other colleagues, your 2026 HSA contribution election will continue for 2027 if you remain enrolled in the HSA Copay option.
Your benefits elections will take effect on January 1, 2027, and will remain in effect through December 31, 2027 as long as you remain eligible. You can only make changes during the year if you experience a qualifying event, so make your enrollment decisions carefully. Different rules may apply if you are on leave of absence and you do not return by January 1, 2027. Contact Fidelity at the Pfizer Benefits Center at 1-877-208-0950 to understand how your 2027 elections are affected if you are on a leave of absence.
Important Annual Enrollment Considerations and Tips
Annual Enrollment is the only time you can take certain actions on your benefit programs. Be sure to understand what happens if you don’t enroll or make changes.
Reimbursement Account Tips
- The Dependent Care Account is used to pay for eligible childcare (generally up to age 13) or adult care expenses such as day care or summer camps to enable you and/or your spouse/domestic partner to work or attend school full time. You can change your election mid-year if you change providers such as signing your child up for a new summer camp.
- If you elect to participate in the LPHCA or GPHCA account for 2027 and you elect the current contribution maximum (e.g., $3,400 for 2026), once the IRS announces the new contribution maximum, your 2027 LPHCA/GPHCA election will automatically increase to the new maximum.
- Remember, you cannot change your LPHCA or GPHCA election mid-year for any reason. Additionally, unused amounts (for these accounts above the IRS carryover limits) are subject to the IRS “use it or lose it” rule.
Life and Disability Insurance Considerations
- Reduce your basic life insurance to $50,000 to avoid imputed income (or increase it back to 1x annual pay — Proof of Good Health may be required).
- During the 2027 Annual Enrollment period ONLY, you may elect or increase Supplemental Life Insurance coverage up to 3x annual pay, up to $1 million, without Proof of Good Health. Proof of Good Health will only be required if you are enrolling in coverage greater than $1 million or if you are electing an increase of more than 3x your annual pay. Generally, during Annual Enrollment, Proof of Good Health is required for any increase in coverage of more than 1x annual pay, up to $1 million.
- Elect or increase spouse/domestic partner life insurance coverage (up to $250,000). You may elect coverage equal to your own total life insurance coverage (basic and supplemental), not to exceed $250,000. Proof of Good Health is required if you are electing coverage for your spouse/domestic partner for the first time or increasing coverage for them regardless of the amount.
- Update the smoker status for you and/or your spouse/domestic partner.
- Change your long-term disability coverage. Evaluate your coverage given the 2027 contribution changes. Since this coverage is based on your annual pay, go to netbenefits.com to view your 2027 contributions. You cannot change your LTD coverage mid-year for any reason.
Proof of Good Health for the Pfizer Life Insurance Plan
If you elect life insurance coverage that requires Proof of Good Health, you will be prompted during the enrollment process on next steps and timing. Once MetLife, the Plan insurer, approves your Proof of Good Health, your full, elected coverage amount will go into effect. Until then, you will have the maximum amount of coverage allowed without Proof of Good Health.
Pfizer Benefit Extras
During Annual Enrollment, you can enroll in:
- Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and/or Hospital Indemnity Insurance — once enrolled, you can cancel any time.
- Legal Services — once enrolled, you may only cancel your participation during Annual Enrollment; otherwise, you will need to wait until next year’s Annual Enrollment period to make any changes for the following year.
- Life Insurance with Long Term Care — if you were hired or newly eligible between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026 (and are ages 18 through 64), you may be permitted to enroll in up to $200,000 of Life Insurance with $400,000 in Long Term Care coverage without Proof of Good Health; otherwise, you will be required to provide Proof of Good Health.
Keep in mind that Pfizer Benefit Extras offers access to a variety of other benefits at group rates that you can enroll in at any time, including Auto and Home Insurance, Identity Theft Protection, Banking and Mortgage Discount Programs, Pet Insurance (including Wagmo which is new for 2027), and more!
Taking a Leave of Absence
If your leave of absence begins on or before September 18, 2026, enrollment information will be mailed to your home. If your leave begins after September 18, call Fidelity at the Pfizer Benefits Center at 1-877-208-0950 to understand how your health and insurance elections may be impacted.
Enrollment Information for COBRA Coverage for Children up to Age 30
If your child turned age 26 and is continuing coverage under COBRA, they will receive a separate enrollment kit mailed to their home address on file. If they have questions about making enrollment changes during the Annual Enrollment period, they should call Fidelity at the Pfizer Benefits Center. If your child is turning age 26 before January 1, 2027, you will receive more information about 60 days prior to their 26th birthday about how to continue their coverage. If your child turns age 26 in 2027, you do not need to remove them from your coverage in 2026 unless you choose to.
Imputed Income
As required by the IRS, Pfizer reports the cost of the Pfizer-provided basic life insurance coverage that exceeds $50,000 as imputed income, which is taxable to you. This is reflected on your 2026 pay statements as “Excess Life Ins”. If your annual pay is greater than $50,000 and you wish to avoid this taxable income, you can elect that your Pfizer-provided basic life insurance be reduced to a flat $50,000. This election is only available when you’re newly eligible or during Annual Enrollment.
