Marriage or Domestic Partnership

Your marriage/domestic partnership is an opportunity to review your benefits coverage and potentially make changes to your Pfizer health and insurance benefits. If you are marrying your domestic partner and he or she is already covered under Pfizer’s benefits, you are required to make changes.

Things to Consider

Update Your Pfizer Health & Insurance Coverage (if applicable)

When you get married or meet Pfizer’s requirements for an eligible domestic partnership, you can make benefit changes through a qualified life event within 31 days of your marriage or meeting Pfizer’s eligibility requirements for a domestic partnership. Pfizer allows you to cover your eligible family members, including your same or opposite sex spouse/domestic partner and their eligible children, provided they meet Pfizer’s dependent eligibility requirements.

Adding Coverage for Your Spouse/Partner

If you want to add your spouse/partner and/or their eligible children for medical, dental, vision, dependent life and/or AD&D insurance coverage, call 1-866-476-8723. Follow the Colleague Services prompts for Benefits at Fidelity to reach the Pfizer Benefits Center.

Note: If you enroll a domestic partner, you cannot update your enrollment online; you must complete the Domestic Partner Enrollment Kit and call the Pfizer Benefits Center to enroll. For additional eligibility details and enrollment instructions, refer to the Domestic Partner Enrollment Kit located in the Reference Library on netbenefits.com.

Marrying Your Domestic Partner

If you are covering your domestic partner under Pfizer’s benefits and you get married, you must notify the Pfizer Benefits Center as well as Pfizer Benefit Extras. This is important as covering a spouse allows for those benefit contributions to be made on a pre-tax basis and imputed income does not apply, which provides tax savings. For more information about this refer to the Domestic Partner Enrollment Kit located in the Reference Library on netbenefits.com.

Changing Your Coverage

You may also be able to make changes to your own coverage within that same 31-day qualified life event period, such as:

  • dropping your Pfizer medical coverage if you are enrolling in your spouse or partner’s coverage
  • changing your life insurance coverage
  • enrolling in or increasing your Dependent Care Account election to help with adult or childcare expenses

Check Your Pfizer 401(k) Savings Plan and Financial Goals

Now is a good time to review your Savings Plan contribution, investment options and ensure your financial goals are on track. Learn more by visiting the Savings Plan and Financial Education pages.

Update Your Beneficiary Designations

Ensure that your benefits and any other personal investments are paid out based on your preference:

Remember, you are always the beneficiary for any spouse/domestic partner or child life and AD&D insurance coverage you elect.

Review Your Personal and Payroll Information

It’s important to review your Pfizer payroll tax withholdings and the emergency contact information in Workday.

  • Payroll and tax information: visit Fuse and click Access My Pay. Consult with a tax advisor to determine how you may be impacted.
  • Personal information: visit Fuse and click Access Workday, view your Profile and update your Personal information and Contacts.
  • If your marital status is changing from Single to Married, update your Marital Status on Workday.

Create or Update Your Will

Coming together to share your life with another is also an opportunity to plan for the unexpected to ensure you and your loved ones are protected. If you are enrolled in Legal Services through Pfizer Benefit Extras, you have coverage for legal services to update/create wills, a power of attorney or other important legal documents. If you are not enrolled in this benefit, you will need to wait until the next Annual Enrollment period to enroll.
